When Your Children Think You Have The Ideal Job Then You Are Made Redundant What Happens Next?

January 8th, 2010 | by Sydney |

All mums and dads want their youngsters to be happy. So, you may go out to work to help pay for nice trips, give the children treats, buy those expensive games that all their friends seem to have and the latest clothes they long for.

Then, you become a really hip parent because you get what your children consider to be the ideal job – in my case that was working with mobile phones for one of the well known mobile phone companies. I got the chance to bring home mobile telephones which were not yet on the market, working with the latest technology, helping to iron out bugs before the mobile telephones got to the shops. I was the uber-cool mum!

How, then, do you advise your kids that due to the recession, people are not purchasing as many mobile telephones and the firm is down-sizing, closing your site, and with this news, your job is disappearing. You will become one of the many redundant earners looking for a new career. Not only are you no longer working with cutting technology, you now must find another career – for you any job will do, but for the youngsters they still want to have the trendy mum. Lots of their pals’ mums are teachers, nurses, shop assistants. Their mum was distinct and they don’t want to give up that status.

So, you search through jobs, Online Jobs, job centre jobs, agency jobs, you dream about work, your whole life revolves around finding that next career. Then a little star shines out at you. You have found what you think may be your ideal new career. It is a chance to start an Internet Business, with a new technology, and at the same time Work From Home. It could be you have found something that suits you and appeals to the children at the same time.

When I was scanning the Online Jobs, I came across an option to join an Internet Business as a franchisee, which was within my means, so I carried out some investigations to confirm that the job was as it appeared in the advert.

This new role was in the field of search engine optimization. It informed me that I would need only basic internet skills, and all training would be included in the price I paid. As I have recently been taking Open University training in ITC, which overlapped with some of the skills which would transfer to this job, I was keen to find out more.

I had interviews and meetings with the founder of this franchise and we were both pleased for me to join this Internet Business.

Another bonus was that I would be able to Work From Home. I already had a telephone, computer, internet connection and access to a printer, which are really the only tools necessary to start up in this venture. Within weeks of seeing this opportunity in the Online Jobs, I had begun my training. My youngsters are delighted that I am once again working with cutting edge technology and they love the fact that they can tell folk I am now the owner of an Internet Business where I have the opportunity to Work From Home. Cool mum reigns!
