The Hamster Wheel And Pressures Of Working In An Office And Objectives To Meet Are Letting People Look Again At Their Working Life
January 30th, 2010 | by Sydney |Particularly in these times of market downturn, companies all want only the finest people to work for them and companies therefore put their workers under greater and greater pressure to excel.
The employees are handed targets to realize. If the staff realize their first objective, they are given a higher objective the next time. If targets are not achieved, then if these are bonus related targets, they may mean that no bonus is achieved.
Warnings may be handed to workers who do not attain their targets and even where targets are not bonus linked, it will have an effect on their annual review, which in turn will have an impact their salary rise.
Many businesses could be depicted as cut-throat. They only want the very best employees, so yearly they are looking to remove the worst performers from their company. The impact this has is that somebody who was originally deemed an asset to the company one year, may over time become a worker who only meets targets, then eventually misses objectives.
All this can become very distressing. Staff are persistently looking over their shoulders to see what is taking place. They feel the need to work longer and longer hours in an attempt to achieve the unachievable. They are bothered about taking time off work lest this is seen as lack of dedication and all these reasons result in a very unhappy and unhealthy place of work.
It should be no revelation then that some folk are taking time to reassess their working life. More and more employees are deciding to jump off the hamster wheel and take a change of course. At this point, the choice to Work From Home may be seen as the way forward.
With the increase in the number of private dwellings with access to a PC, the Internet Business is increasing and this has the knock on effect of having more Online Jobs available. It could be that people who have decided they would prefer to Work From Home can actually continue the role they were doing for a company, but working for themselves from their house. If your job was one which in the past you loved, what could be better than taking the opportunity to continue this line of work, but without a boss, so all objectives set are of your own making.
The route to achieve this could be to set up your own Internet Business. This should notify searchers what your company is about and what you can do for them. If you have many years of knowledge in this field, your web site should reflect this and where possible have acknowledgements from happy customers to develop trust.
Obviously, starting up your own Internet Business is not a quick fix, as it would take some time to put in place. If this is really how you picture yourself going forward though, there is no reason to let this pevent you. It could be continuing with your current job while setting up your business would be the way to realize this.
For some people though, this is not what they want. They like the thought of being able to Work From Home, but not be self employed, and for these people viewing the Online Jobs which are available could reveal a gem. If you find a job which you really think would enhance your life, then it makes sense to take the opportunity.
You have ultimate responsibility for your own happiness. If you are not satisfied with your current job, then choose to take action. Consider the options available to you and make your change. Happiness should follow.
