Peering Out Of My House At The Snow Today I Realized How Privileged I Was To Work From Home
December 29th, 2009 | by Sydney |Early this morning, when I awoke, I opened the blinds and looked out on a thick covering of snow. There were very few footprints yet, this was new snow which had fallen during the night. It looked like a winter wonderland, from inside my warm house.
My car was thick with snow and I thought how privileged I was that I Work From Home and did not need to spend quarter of an hour or more, scraping snow and ice from my car before setting out to work, ensuring the windscreen washer was not frozen and could clear the salt from the windscreen, heating up the interior of the car too, all prior to even starting my journey into work.
Once on my way, I would be met with the snow dance in the car. Hoping the tyres were going to hold the road and not have me slipping into the path of oncoming vehicles, or brakes not working because of black ice. No, I am part of the Internet Business, so am free to stay indoors when the weather is bad. I can sit in my snuggly pyjamas and dressing gown, drinking tea while I get on with those Online Jobs which have come in overnight and then, when all my neighbours have left and are on their way to work, I can take a break to enjoy the snow.
My family love sliding, sledging and building igloos, so that is what we do. The chance to Work From Home gives me this flexibility. I can start work early in the day, take a break in the middle and then work later in the evening, if that fits around my family best. So, with no feeling of guilt, I park the Online Jobs which I have not yet completed, get dressed in warm clothes, wrap the children up in hats, boots and gloves and out we go.
Two hours later, we are all happy to return to the house having loved our time in the snow. A warm drink and something to eat and I return to my Internet Business. I can now return to my daily tasks, having been refreshed by my time playing with the children. They are willing to entertain themselves for a while now to allow me to get back to my work, so we are all winners.
Had I not been privileged enough to Work From Home, I would have probably left the house while it was still dark to drive to the office, then because it is winter and the nights draw in early, it would be dark when I returned home. I would be promising my family that if the snow was still there at the weekend we could enjoy it together, but there would be no guarantee, of course, that the snow would still be there at the weekend and we would all feel thwarted.
I, however, could undertake my Internet Business at hours that fit in with me and my family, so games in the snow, when it is there, and work on those Online Jobs when we are done enjoying the snow is a real bonus for us. I love the fact that I am one of the privileged ones who found a job working from the home, which gives a good living and at the same time allows me the flexibility to enjoy time with my family whenever we want, and work early hours or late, depending on our current needs.
